Students hit the trail with their belongings; books, book bags, and whatever they wore to school. Our first stop was a persimmon tree with fruit in different stages of ripeness. The bravest students shared in the bounty with me. There is no way to carry enough provisions to sustain you on a grueling 800 mile journey.
